            People who participate in activities at the Orlando Insight Meditation Group’s meditation hall in Winter Park, FL have an opportunity to demonstrate generosity every time they walk in the front door. On the right as they enter the hall, they find a clearly marked box or crate where they can deposit food for those in need.

            A cooperative venture with Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida makes this wonderful method of giving to those who face difficult times possible. A non faith-based organization, Second Harvest needs food that is nonperishable, unopened and not expired. Items like canned meats, fish and vegetables are especially welcome as are rice, flower, sugar, peanut butter, baby food and powered or canned milk.

            Sangha members often make good use of those two-for-one sales at their local supermarket by keeping the needs of the food bank in mind. Even better, some members send a check directly to Second Harvest where great amounts of food can be purchased at big discounts.
